Scout Programs at the North Texas History Center
The North Texas History Center provides opportunities for Scouts of all ages to learn more about themselves through both self-guided tours and museum-led programs. As NTHC continues to grow its programming, we encourage Leaders and Scouts alike to let us know what we can do to become a valuable partner in Scouting.
NTHC offers both formal Scout workshops and a venue for Scouts and their Leaders to work on their own projects. We love having members of the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts here at the Museum and would love to see more. Please call 972.542.9457 ext. 102 for information about Scout Programs.
Girl Scout Programs:
Preserving Family History fulfills requirements for the Folk Art Badge while introducing Junior Girl Scouts to how museums preserve history and how they can preserve their family history.
Each Scout will investigate photographs from the past to learn what they tell us about history, listen to voices from the past through family letters, and create paper quilt squares while learning how quilts preserved family stories and memories.
Voices from the Past: Brownies will complete three activities for the Listening to the Past Try-It. A fourth activity can be completed with a trip to Historic Pecan Grove Cemetery just a short drive away. Listen to stories of days gone by, play games from yesteryear, and tour Historic Downtown McKinney to learn what buildings have to say about the past.
Where: North Texas History Center, 300 East Virginia St., McKinney When: Saturdays , by reservation only. Length: 1.5–2.5 hours. Cost: $5 per Girl Scout and $2 per parent or chaperone.
